Prevention is not an option but an obligation of every modern and intelligent man
When prevention is not an option
Dr. Bene Fittipaldi
The idea of associating the months of the year with the prevention of diseases, especially the more serious or chronic ones, for which, of course, prevention plays a fundamental role, can be analyzed from two angles:
- Modern society is paying greater attention to preventive measures for diseases, not only out of an act of kindness on the part of society itself and pure and simple concern for its citizens, but also because, as an organized structure, society is increasingly realizing the high costs involved in curative treatments, versus the much lower costs of preventive measures;
- There is an undeniable higher prevalence of diseases that were probably not present at current rates of occurrence, nor were they diagnosed with the ease and precision that the development of the medical and biological sciences in general has brought to the process.
And following the annual calendar, November or Blue November is the month dedicated to drawing attention to prostate cancer.
The prostate is a gland in the male genital system that begins to develop during adolescence as a result of the action of testosterone. Its size can vary according to age, being about the size of a walnut in younger men. Its function is to produce the prostatic fluid that protects the sperm. When ejaculation occurs, the prostate fluid protects the sperm from the acidic environment of the vagina, keeping their DNA intact. It also extends the life of the sperm and makes them more mobile.
It’s not wrong to say, according to numerous respected experts, that if a man lives long enough, he will eventually develop prostate cancer. This manifestation gives rise to the perception that, prevention is not an option but an obligation of every modern and intelligent man.
As if not in all, in many cancers, the genetic predisposition to the disease is clearly determined. Do you have any close relatives with prostate cancer? Redouble, triple your preventive care!
Environmental factors that are also implicated in the onset of other cancers, such as smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyles and others, must be taken into account. If the experts’ opinion described above is correct, it is no less true that living gives you prostate cancer.
So, after the age of 40, every man should go to his doctor of choice, in this case a urologist, to have his prostate health assessed. Prostate cancer detected early is among those with the best therapeutic results, with a significant percentage of cases being completely cured.
Take care! Take seriously the threat that the accumulation of years, simply living, poses to the appearance of prostate cancer.
